Slang Hugh

As a producer, rapper, and songwriter, Slang Hugh has been involved in creation of music for over 20+ years.  a first generation born Canadian, of Jamaican descent whose sound is uniquely influenced by his eclectic upbringing.  Growing up in a time that many refer to as the golden age of music, Slang Hugh's sound is familiar, yet refreshing.  His production is laced with basslines that emulate dancehall creations of Dave Kelly, with melodies as smooth as a jazz quartet but just as intricate, blended effortlessly with drums that hit like the impact of Hip hop in the 90s bomb squad.  While considered a hip hop producer mainly, Slang Hugh’s capabilities range widely from reggae to R&B to house to afro beats, etc.

With a pen that is as mighty as his DAW, Slang Hugh has worked with some of the music industries most talented and diverse.  From Juno nominated Kardinal Offishall, to Reggae star Kirk Diamond, to renowned DJ Flatline (flow 93.7), to North Carolina up and coming rapper Sean Links.  Slang is 1/3 of the production team Gold Era Music, established in 2019.  The crew has been making waves in the hip hop and reggae scene by taking an entrepreneurial approach. Establishing their website goldermusic.com in order to sell vinyl and merchandise such as the Slang Hugh and Sibbs Roc fully produced, Sean Links project Radio Raheem, and the Gold Era produced Rochester, New York’s Family Gang Black album, Ventilation amongst many others.

With aspirations of further expanding his sound Slang Hugh is currently working on a Folk Pop EP, with new artist Ven C., and a follow up to his instrumental project Who Can’t Hear Must Feel.
